MY PARENTS LIVE right next to the Wirral Country Park and so, Bank Holiday weather being altogether better than is usually the case for such a holiday, Willaston was the destination by car, from where a twenty-one mile round-trip by bike took in the Dee Estuary and ice cream at West Kirby’s Marine Lake. Childhood memories of Hilbre Island – and of bike rides then, and picnics – and some of Wirral’s most glorious wildlife, flowers and fauna … a day well spent.
